Our Story
THE PASSION FOR PIZZA
Our story began on a summer evening in 1961 when an Italian woman started selling pizzas out of her garage. This woman's name was Mary Spadero. She was the daughter of two Italian immigrants looking for a better life in the United States. Mary used a recipe that she and her mother had hand crafted over the years. The initial workers were her husband Carmen and her daughter Rosiland. The business began to grow steadily over the years. In the mid 1970s two key people to this story began helping out at the shop. Mary's grandsons Steven and Michael showed up to help their aging grandmother run the business. Shortly after getting help from her grandsons, Mary began to suffer memory loss. She was later diagnosed with dementia. In 1985 Steven and Michael were given the reigns of the business. Steven and Michael kept every recipe the same and continued to grow the business. Mary stayed involved as much as she could until it became too much for her in the mid 1990s. By the late 1990s the pizza shop had out grown its original building. On a Friday night in those days, one could expect a two hour wait for a single pizza. In the year 2000, Steve and Michael decided to convert their grandfather's car garage into a new pizza shop. Everything was upgraded to improve efficiency. They added two new ovens, a dough mixer, and new menu items. Instead of just selling pizzas, Steven and Michael decided to add a fryer for wings and other fried foods. They also brought on an Italian bread, called foccia. Mary lived just long enough to see the new changes as she passed away in 2002. Mary's Pizza also opened for lunch once the new building was opened. In the present Steven is married and has two children. Michael moved back home to help out with an older Rosiland and her husband. They are very proud to say that they have kept everything the same as it was when their grandmother Mary ran the business.
